I thought I’d count down the year by recapping each country we visited in 2024, starting with Malaysia. We spent the first ~3 weeks of the year there, first in Kuala Lumpur and then Penang. (We arrived in KL before Christmas.)
See the short video montage here. (If you want sound/music, pop over to IG @openingtheaperture)
In KL, we joined a pop-up event with about 100 other worldschoolers, meeting fabulous people. We ice skated, kayaked, saw the awesome choreographed light show at Suria KLCC, shopped, went on a walking tour, visited a university, and more.
Then we headed to Penang, where we had a beautiful view of the water (but an otherwise loud location). We explored Georgetown, including the Pinang Pernakan Museum. We discovered Nala Designs, went roller skating to K-Pop music, explored the Tech Dome (science museum), met up with other worldschooling families in youth park and Straits Quay, visited an international school, and went to a board game cafe.
We discovered that we liked Malaysia a lot and could probably live there if it wasn’t so hot and humid all year round. 🥵 Also, while there was an amazing variety of delicious cuisine, we’d have to make our own Mexican food because the options we tried were terrible. 😆 But truly, we’re so glad we explored Malaysia and I imagine we’ll head back at some point. It’s such a dynamic, convenient, and affordable place to be!
One day, perhaps in 2025, I’ll finish documenting our time in Malaysia more in depth. ;)
